51 Alternatives to Real Work on a Kindle (link below) – jobseekers

51 Alternatives to Real Work on a Kindle (link below)

I finally got 51 alternatives to actually working on the lighter. To purchase it, click here.

Nevertheless, one of my favorite quotes in reviews by Mike Hudson:

51 Alternatives is not an answer book, it is a question book, and the question is, “Why not?

This is definitely a book, why not. I think some of the ideas here are “too far away” for many people. However, if you are tired of the redundancies hanging over your head, or if you wonder why you only earn x $/hour and barely scratch yourself, or if you just want to feel more personal, then WHY NOT?

I will never forget the email I received from a friend who earns a lot of money with a job that takes him away from the family 5 or 6 days a week, the last many years. He noted that he didn’t have the courage to do what I was doing… Here is his question with my answer (which I wrote, of course, on the blog):Today I received an email from a friend from Texas:

I am glad that your company is doing well. I wish I had your skills to go out and start my own business, but I’m too big a chicken.

So here’s my formula for “going out and starting your own business:

  1. Focus 150% on your career, dedicate your life, time and thoughts to “society”.
  2. Let yourself be fired for any poor reason.
  3. Working 60 hours a week in search of a job.
  4. Have a great looking resume that has some kind of ghost problem (something that’s a problem but you can’t find it).
  5. Make an aha moment that reads, “Wow, that would be really great!!”
  6. You will still not be able to get a job (and even less a couple of interviews)
  7. Be aware that the way forward in your own business will be more fruitful than turning the job search window (these have been months of job search)
  8. Be okay with giving up all company benefits (permanent paycheck, bonus, vacation, sick leave, “cheap” health insurance, etc.)
