I recently shared Craig Delan’s career website with you. The message in this post is that it was a great site and you could put a like!
Today I’m going to share one that’s a bit out of reach for many people, unless they hire someone to help them.
But this is one of the most amazing personal websites I’ve ever seen: Craig Hobson’s site. Let’s break it down (I’m not going to talk about everything, just a few highlights). I should note that Craig is a professional in web design (and strategy and development).

First impressions
Craig has his name loud and clear, (1) an amazing picture (presented with an office clip to create the illusion that I have a printout and attach his image to it) that shows him as friendly, accessible, cool, etc. .
(2) I love the choice of colors and fonts… and you wouldn’t expect that from someone who is an expert in… colors and font?
(3) I like that he tells me that he has 9 years of experience in this field and that he wants to visually show me what he has done.
Časová them!
I like how he puts his past work history into a timeline format. This is really great and it’s easy for me as a hiring manager to analyze. Will this be different from the resumes I receive? certainly.
Assessments!
Craig has references all over this site… not only in this section (which is quite high on the site), but on the entire site. Excellent location. i know you have them…. take a look at your LinkedIn recommendations… are you using them as effectively as Craig?
How skilled are you, really?
I remember a resume I received a few years ago… The guy named about 20 programming languages in which he spoke. He was a junior in college. Maybe he was so amazing, but I’d rather see something like that… a graph that shows me the level of expertise (see levels on the left under the arrow). To take it a step further, Craig grouped his skills around web development, graphic design, SEO, and marketing, and video. Very nice presentation!
Personal attributes and strategy
I like… site screams AMAZINGLY! But this section shows the non-designer, non-technical side of Craig. When I look at it, I think “this guy is also very strategic. It’s not just the designer who’s waiting for me to give him instructions, he’ll bring a lot of strategic thinking to the projects!” In other words, this section expands the breadth of Craig’s abilities.
Portfolio
Any of his FAVORITE projects? I like that he has some favorites. He enumerates a lot… it will show you what kind of things he worked on… which is critical. No one hires a designer who no one can see. Want to know if Craig is good? In addition to THIS website, check out the projects he has worked on! Even if YOUR work is not so visual, can you somehow make it visible to showcase the “portfolio”?
Contact Information: EASY
Craig facilitates contact with him. You can connect to LinkedIn, Twitter or Facebook (icons at the very top of the page), or you can use the form at the bottom… and hell, if it’s too slow, you can call him. Make it easier for people to get in touch with you!
This is really exceptional. I know that some of you are thinking, ‘Where do I start? Maybe you can use his contact form to reach out to him and get an offer (I don’t know if he would accept this type of project for others).
If nothing else, I wanted you to get some ideas from him and see if you could incorporate them into your own online presence!
